Atlantic Gateway and Atlantic Green are bold proposals for a mixed-use development on the site of the Brooklyn House of Detention on Atlantic Avenue. The proposals, which were submitted in response to a city-issued RFP, describe a groundbreaking approach to criminal justice that favors rehab and reentry coupled with supportive housing, education and social services, over incarceration. Encompassing an entire city block in a prime Brooklyn neighborhood, the proposals also feature market rate housing, affordable housing, educational, cultural, commercial and retail spaces. The proposals are visionary in their simultaneous juxtaposition of social, economic and physical agenda not only for this site, but also for the city at large.
