Hamlin Ventures conceived of and led this public design competition on behalf of the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership.  Over 100 artists were invited to submit proposals to “re-imagine the blank surfaces” of a 20-block area of downtown Brooklyn.  Artists were encouraged to think of surface as a form of urban public space and to submit designs not only for building walls, but also for sidewalk sheds, parking lot fences, sidewalks and other blank spaces.  Several winning designs were later installed throughout the downtown area.
